Barbara Groves writes Appalachian folk horror rooted in folklore, grief, survival, and the shadows hidden deep within the mountains. Her stories blend atmospheric dread with emotional realism, often exploring the uneasy connection between humanity, nature, and ancient things that refuse to stay forgotten.

As a skin cancer survivor, Barbara’s work is shaped by themes of mortality, resilience, and endurance. Her fiction reflects both the beauty and danger of the natural world, where old legends still breathe beneath the trees.

She is the author of Mother’s Mouth, The Rootwalker, and the upcoming Seasons of the Hollow novels. In addition to writing, Barbara is the owner of Broken Candle Book Designs, where she creates dark, cinematic covers for authors across multiple genres.
